Neues von b-rad und dem WDLXTV Projekt

Wer geglaubt hatte, das Projekt WDLXTV von b-rad hat sich erledigt, da es ja auf der Projektseite seit Ende März keine Update mehr gab, den muss ich zum Glück enttäuschen. b-rad arbeitet seit einiger Zeit an einer neuen Version seiner alternativen Firmware für die Western Digital HD Player WDTV Live und Live plus. Ich habs leider auch erst durch Zufall erfahren und die aktuelle Preview mit der Versionsnummer 0.5.0.0, wird auch noch nicht im offiziellen Bereich des Seite promotet.

Die aktuelle Entwicklung basiert auf der leider nicht mehr ganz so aktuellen offiziellen Version 1.0.5.04 bringt aber schon eine ganze Reihe an Veränderungen mit. Siehe ChangeLog:

Die offizielle Firmware von Western Digital ist aktuell bei Versionsnummer 1.06.15_V angekommen und beinhaltet, soweit ich das kurz ausprobieren konnte, als ich einen kaputtgeflashten WDTV Live eines Freundes reanimiert habe, auch Spiele. Wer's mag...

Wer den aktuellen Stand der alternativen Firmware von b-rad mal ausprobieren möchte kann sie hier runterladen. ich empfehle die Verwendung der EXT3-Boot Version. Diese wird direkt von einem USB Stick gestartet ohne den Player neu zu flashen. Man kann also erst einmal ausprobieren bevor man sich die Kiste dann zerschießt.

Aber immer dran denken: Alles was ihr mit dem WDTV anstellt und nicht von Western Digital abgesegnet ist geschieht auf eigene Gefahr und die Garantie ist dann futsch. Passt bei dieser Version besonders auf, sie ist ja noch nicht fertig und soll nur einen ersten Ausblick liefern.

Ich habe es, stand jetzt, noch nicht geschafft die Version 0.5.0.0 auszuprobieren. Vielleicht komme ich morgen Abend noch dazu. Sollte es was grundlegendes zu berichten geben, melde ich mich wieder.
